Richard Brennen

Mr. Brennen leads Spencer Stuart's Information Officer Practice. Rich specializes in recruiting senior leaders within the information systems function and for information technology consulting firms. He also is a member of Spencer Stuart's board of directors, former chairman of the firm's personnel committee and is former chairman of the firm's partner information technology committee.

With more than 25 years of experience in IT, Rich has recruited senior executive management, CIOs and board directors in virtually all industries. He has recruited more than 250 CIOs, and his recent experience includes recruiting CIOs for: multiple consumer products companies; a major financial services company; a major healthcare provider; a leading apparel manufacturer; a leading university; a major retailer and a large software company. Rich also has recruited several senior partners for major information technology consulting firms, as well as marketing and sales executives for various technology-based companies.

Prior to joining Spencer Stuart, Rich spent more than 15 years with IBM Corporation in a wide variety of sales, marketing and consulting roles. He played a key role in helping to build IBM's worldwide information technology strategy and planning consulting practice. Formerly, as branch manager, Rich managed IBM's sales and marketing operations in New Jersey.

Rich has a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia and an M.B.A. in management from Temple University.

David Brown

Having recently left Heidrick & Struggles, David’s prior experience includes co-founding a successful boutique search firm specializing in the recruitment of CIOs and CFOs with an emphasis on the technology industry. Earlier he led the Global Information Officers Practice of Russell Reynolds Associates. During his 15 years with that firm, David played a key role in building the firm’s presence in the technology sector and in the development of many of the firm's leading technology clients. As one of the country's leading CIO recruiters, David has helped a diverse group of companies build outstanding information technology leadership teams. Representative searches include the recruitment of CIOs/CTOs for McKesson, Providian, PPG, Ecolab, SSA Global, Equity Office Properties, Reliance Steel and Aluminum, Nissan Americas, SmithBucklin and TreeHouse Foods/Bay Valley Foods. David also has helped CIOs build strong leadership teams at companies including Nuveen, DSW, Westfield and Kennametal. Prior to entering executive search, David spent several years in sales and marketing with IBM Corporation. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in business at the University of Colorado. David currently serves as a member of the Delnor Health System board of directors in Geneva, IL. He also chairs the Compensation Committee of that organization and serves on the Delnor Foundation board of directors for which he is past Chairman.


Katie Graham

Katie Graham is a Partner with Heidrick & Struggles based in the Chicago office, with almost fifteen years of experience in Executive Search.  Katie is a key member of the Chief Information Officer Practice.  She works with Global Fortune 1000 companies across all industry sectors building their IT leadership teams at the most senior levels. 

Katie joined Heidrick & Struggles in 2000 and spent the first few years co-running the Global Chief Information Practice making it one of the premier CIO search firms in the world.  Since joining Heidrick & Struggles, Katie has conducted many Global Fortune 1000 CIO searches in media and entertainment, consumer packaged goods, communications, technology and financial services industries including Avon Products, United Airlines, Polo Ralph Lauren, JC Penney, Sears Holding Corporation, Sara Lee and eBay among others.    She is a key member of the Chief Information Officer Practice and works closely with each of the global industry Practices’ including: Consumer, Business and Professional Services, Technology, Life Sciences, Industrial, Private Equity and Venture Capital, and Financial Services Practices’.

Katie’s prior search experience includes five years with A.T. Kearney Executive Search in both Chicago and San Francisco offices.  She specialized in placing senior executives within the Technology Industry which included start-up, venture and private equity backed, private and publicly traded Fortune 500 businesses.  Before entering the search industry, Katie worked for MCI Telecommunications as an Account Development Manager building corporate clientele in the middle market segment.

Katie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Marquette University, and studied abroad at Loyola University Rome Center in Italy.  She is a Board Member of The Art Institute of Chicago - Evening Associates and a Member of the Executives’ Club of Chicago.

 

H. William Haser

H. William Haser is vice president and chief information officer, Tenneco. In this role, Haser has responsibility for the company's global information technology operations. He reports to Ken Trammell, Executive Vice President and CFO, and serves on the Tenneco senior management team. Haser was appointed vice president and CIO for Tenneco Automotive's American businesses in 1998 and was named to his current position in 2002. From 1995 until 1998, Mr. Haser served as vice president and CIO of Tenneco Packaging.

Since joining Tenneco Inc. in 1983 as a business analyst, Mr. Haser has served as assistant to the CEO of Tenneco Packaging; production and manufacturing manager in specialty packaging; plant general manager in molded fiber and controller for paperboard.

Mr. Haser is a graduate of Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, and holds a BS in chemical engineering from Cornell University.

John M. Hinshaw

As Boeing chief information officer (CIO) and vice president of the Information Technology (IT) organization, John Hinshaw is responsible for all IT strategy, operations, processes and people of the world's leading aerospace company. He was named to this position in June 2007 and reports to John Tracy, Senior Vice President of Boeing Engineering, Operations & Technology. In 2008, Boeing was featured in Computerworld's 100 Best Places to work in IT rankings.

John was previously Chief Information Officer of Verizon Wireless, where he held a number of key positions focused on enabling business growth, reducing costs, and creating business efficiencies. He was also responsible for leading the information technology organization supporting over 60 million customers. His responsibilities included managing the company's IT portfolio, including global supply chain, billing, sales, and customer care systems and was also responsible for successfully completing a significant consolidation of the company's core systems.

Prior to Verizon Wireless, John worked as a consultant for Accenture, providing information technology consulting for several Fortune 100 companies and government agencies. He also worked for the Department of Commerce in the American Embassy in London and the Department of Defense Naval Engineering Command in Norfolk, Virginia.

In 2007 John's Verizon Wireless organization was ranked in the top 15 of Computerworld's Best Places to work in IT. In 2004 John accepted the CIO magazine "CIO 100" award for Agility in Information Technology. In 1991, John received the United States Department of Commerce Recognition Award for Exemplary Contributions in Information Technology.

John serves as a member of the Mayor of Chicago's Technology Advisory Council. He served on the CIO Advisory Board of NCR Teradata from 2006 to 2007. John also served on the Board of Directors of Men Stopping Violence, a non-profit organization for preventing domestic violence from 2005 to 2006; on the Advisory Board for the Masters in Information Systems Program of Stevens Institute of Technology from 2001 to 2004; and as Chairman of Peoplesoft's Communications Industry Advisory Board from 2000 to 2002.

John holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Computer Information Systems from James Madison University, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He is a native of Norfolk, Virginia, and he and his wife, Julia, and their daughters reside in Chicago, Illinois.

 

Peter Logothetis

Peter is Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at QBE the Americas, a member of the Australia-based QBE Group. QBE the Americas is a $4.0 billion (annual premiums) company headquartered in New York with several subsidiaries across the U.S. and in South America. 

Peter has more than 25 years of experience in the information technology industry.  He has worked in the manufacturing, banking, insurance, and consulting industries for such well known companies as Continental Bank, CNA Insurance, Kemper Insurance, and Liberty Mutual Insurance.

Peter has been very active in industry initiatives, conferences, and IT forums.  He also participates in mentorship programs and school board memberships.        

Since 1980, Peter has been a part-time IT instructor at DePaul University, where he earned his masters in business administration and information systems. 

 

Jerry Luftman

Dr. Luftman is the Executive Director of Graduate Information Systems Programs, and Distinguished Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken New Jersey.  His career includes strategic positions in management (Information Technology, including being a CIO, and consultant), management consulting, Information Systems, and executive education.  After a notable twenty-three year career with IBM, and over fifteen years at Stevens, Dr. Luftman’s experience combines the strengths of practitioner, consultant, and academic. His framework for assessing IT-business alignment maturity is considered key in helping companies around the world understand, define, and scope an appropriate strategic planning direction that leverages Information Technology.  Dr. Luftman’s annual study of IT trends sponsored by SIM (Society for Information Management) has served as a barometer of the industry for almost 10 years. Dr. Luftman is the founder and leader of Stevens graduate IS Programs; one of the largest in the world.  He created and teaches a popular end-of Masters course on managing the IT resource, which explores how to be a successful IT executive. Dr. Luftman’s newest book (one of twelve) “Competing in the Information Age: Align in the Sand”, published by Oxford University, has surpassed his initial best seller “Competing in the Information Age” which is still selling strong around the globe.  He has served on Executive Boards for several companies and organizations such as SIM and The Conference Board, as well as several leading journals. His advice is frequently requested as an executive mentor. 

 

Frank Modruson

Frank B. Modruson, CIO of Accenture, leads a high-performance global IT organization that directly supports the business goals of a $23.39 billion company. He oversees all business applications and technology infrastructure, enabling over 187,000 employees in 52 countries to work anytime, anywhere. Frank has transformed IT into a strategic asset for Accenture. Under his leadership, the IT organization has produced an unparalleled ability to run IT as a business, implemented a comprehensive governance model, and streamlined the technology infrastructure. He formerly served as a client partner delivering large, complex IT transformation projects and business solutions that maximized ROI.

CIO Magazine recently selected Accenture as one of 100 innovative organizations that use IT effectively to create business value. InformationWeek named Accenture’s IT organization to the InformationWeek 500 and Accenture was named to the 2008 InfoWorld 100. Frank was named to InfoWorld’s Top 25 CTOs and Computerworld's Premier 100.  He has been quoted in publications such as The Financial Times of London, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, CIO Magazine, Computerworld, InformationWeek, and InfoWorld.

Frank is a volunteer firefighter, serves on the Board of Directors of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and is a member of Chicago’s Economic Club and Executive's Club. He helped establish the Penn State College of Information Sciences and Technology from which he holds a Master of Science. Frank holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Dickinson College.

 

Pat Moroney

Mr. Moroney currently provides Chief Information Officer Advisory services to several portfolio businesses of a NY-based private equity firm, New Mountain Capital LLC. Currently he is assisting Intermarine LLC, a breakbulk shipping concern in Houston, TX and was previously at National Medical Health Card Services, Inc. a mid-sized, public, Pharmacy Benefits Manager based in Port Washington, NY recently sold to SXC Health Solutions. He performs this role via his Presidency leading The Barnier Group LLC, a CIO Advisory and Services firm. Mr. Moroney has been a business leader and I.T. professional for 27 years with thirteen years experience in large-cap Chief Information Officer roles at Health Care Service Corporation (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma), The ServiceMaster Company (Terminix TruGreen, Merry Maids, others) and the Food and Nutrition Sector of Monsanto (NutraSweet, Equal, Ortho Brands, others). Mr. Moroney has global experience on six continents having lead major organizations, programs and projects in large scale system implementations, business process re-engineerings and transformations, outsourcing and merger, acquisition and divestiture work, business turnaround challenges and organizational governance and effectiveness efforts.

Mr. Moroney is a member of the Chicago Chapters of the Society of Information Management (SIM) and the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP). He is also President of Technology Leaders Association (TLA) a collegial networking organization for senior technology executives with 6,000 members. Mr. Moroney serves as a board member for i.c.stars, a NFP focused on building technology and business leaders from the inner city. He also serves on the Technology Advisory Committee for the Computing and Digital Media School of DePaul University. He is a member of the Executives’ Club of Chicago and received the Club’s “CIO of the Year” award for 2004, ComputerWorld Magazine’s “Premier 100 CIO” award for 2006 and helped his IT organization at HCSC achieve the #21 spot in ComputerWorld’s top 100 best IT workplaces in 2005. Mr. Moroney received a Bachelors in Business Administration degree from Loyola University of Chicago in 1977.


Joe Phillips

Joe Phillips is Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Integrys Energy Group. As VP and CIO, Joe supervises applications development, computer operations, information services, applied and emerging technology, telecommunications and network support, and database administration and security. Prior to this appointment, Joe was Vice President of Information Technology Services at Peoples Energy. He came to Peoples from Accenture in 2003. With 23 years in utility practice, he was promoted to partner with Accenture in 1990. At Accenture, Joe primarily worked for water, gas and electric distribution companies in their distribution and customer care functions.

Joe holds Bachelors degrees in Computer Science and Accounting from St. Mary’s College of Winona, MN in 1980, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Mark Polansky

With more than 25 years of executive search experience, all in technology, Mr. Polansky has extensively recruited chief information officers, chief technology officers and other senior IT leaders across a wide range of vertical industry sectors. He also has expertise in recruiting for both general and technical management for public and private high-tech companies, managed service providers, professional services organizations, venture firms and their portfolio companies. Mr. Polansky joined Korn/Ferry in 1997.

Mr. Polansky frequently addresses conferences and writes on information systems subjects as well as career management and human resources topics, and he is the creator of the “Executive Career Counsel” column in CIO Magazine. He currently serves on the advisory board of Columbia University's executive graduate program in information technology management. He is a member of the Society for Information Management previously serving as chairman and president of the New York Metro Chapter. Mr. Polansky currently serves on the advisory boards of The Information Technology Senior Management Forum, the national organization dedicated to fostering executive talent among African-American IT professionals, and HITEC, the Hispanic Information Technology Executive Council.

Mr. Polansky holds a a master’s degree in computer science from Pratt Institute and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and electrical engineering from Union College.

Dr. Howard Rubin

Dr. Rubin is internationally recognized for his work as an author, researcher, speaker, and consultant in the areas of IT measurement, techno-business strategy, global software economics, the workforce of the future, the business value of technology, performance measurement and benchmarking, and "green IT."

Dr. Rubin is a Professor Emeritus of Computer Science at Hunter College of the City University of New York, an MIT CISR Research Affiliate, a Gartner Senior Advisor, a former board member and Executive Vice President of META Group, Inc., and a former Nolan Norton Research Fellow focusing on the development of the Balanced Business Scorecard. In addition, Dr. Rubin has served as a member of the Global Information Economy Working Group of the U.S. State Department's Advisory Committee on International Economic Policy. He has also worked directly with heads of state around the world to develop national competitive technology strategies for Canada, India, the Philippines, South Africa, and the United States.

Dr. Rubin possesses a Ph.D. from the City University of New York in Computer Science and Oceanography.

Eric J. Sigurdson Eric Sigurdson leads the firm’s Information Officers Practice and is a member of the firm’s global Technology Sector. Based in Chicago, he has experience recruiting both technology professionals in non-technological industries and senior executives for technology-based companies. Eric’s clients have included hardware, software, services and telecommunications firms. He specializes in executive searches, including for CEOs, presidents, COOs, CIOs and division general managers as well as for functional executives in sales, marketing, finance and business development.

Prior to joining Russell Reynolds Associates in 1995, Eric spent eleven years with the IBM Corporation, where he held a broad range of positions in marketing, sales and management, with his last four years spent leading a software sales organization in the Midwest. He began his IBM career in technical sales with the National Accounts Division in Chicago.

Eric is a member of the Glencoe Board of Education, and he co-chairs the Nominating Committee for the Chicago Economic Club. Eric received his B.S. in computer science and mathematics from the University of Illinois and his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
